VocalTec Communications Inc. is an Israeli telecom equipment provider founded in 1989 by Alon Cohen and Lior Haramaty. In early 1993 they partnered with a group of innovative teenagers known as ClassX, some of whom had served in Unit 8200, the renowned IDF signal intelligence and code decryption unit. Together, they created the technology that makes Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) possible. In February 1995, VocalTec released the first ever Internet VoIP program, named the Internet Phone.
In 2010, VocalTec merged with magicJack to become magicJack VocalTec Ltd., a leading cloud communications company headquartered in West Palm Beach, Florida, and Netanya, Israel. With its easy-to-use, low cost solutions for telecommunications, magicJack VocalTec has sold more than 10 million of its award-winning magicJack devices. Now in its third generation, magicJack has millions of downloads of its free calling app, the magicJack APP, which allows users to make and receive telephone calls through smart phones or computers using their magicJack accounts.
